The Holy Year of Compostela is 2021 (extended until the end of 2022 by Pope Francis). A new gift from God that gives us the chance to get going on the path, knowing that we are never alone along the way and that we are always accompanied. Following a process of hope, open to new challenges that help us find ourselves, our brothers and sisters and, therefore, find God. And naturally, so we can make a commitment to our society, every person with their own concrete reality.

And, now a tradition in our country’s youth ministry, every summer when there is a Holy Year of Compostela, a European Youth Pilgrimage (PEJ) is organised, another chance to walk to the tomb of the Apostle Saint James. The last one was in 2010 and we have been excitedly awaiting its arrival!

PEJ22 is convened by the Archdiocese of Santiago de Compostela, jointly with the Subcommittee for Young People and Children of the Spanish Episcopal Conference.  It will be held in Santiago de Compostela from 3 to 7 August 2022. It was initially scheduled for August 2021 but due to the situation caused by Covid-19, it has been estimated that the safest and most prudent thing to do is to postpone it to the summer of 2022.

Over the course of these days, participants will have extraordinary experiences, with catechism, recreational activities, concerts… and many more surprises! This will convert the city of Santiago de Compostela into the European Youth Capital for several days. You wouldn’t want to miss out, would you?

All young people from 15 to 35 years old can participate, via their youth ministry reference groups (national dioceses, movements, congregations and secular institutes).

And as you well know, the best way of reaching Santiago is by walking the Camino de Santiago – or Way of St James – which is why the organisers are going to handle all the coordination for young participants, evenly distributing them on the nine possible Ways on the dates planned for the PEJ.
